The story, however, may be just interesting enough to get the player through the game, but won’t exactly provide any kind of profound insight into the state of interactive narratives. It’s a game worth checking out (though you might want to wait for a sale), but is far from the great narrative experiences other walking simulators have come to be known for.
Transference’s story is a pure home run backed up by clever puzzles, a fantastic art style, and great acting. Even the non-threat provided by the game’s sole enemy can’t ruin this. Fans of stories that keep you up at night considering every angle should really take a look at this one. They may just find their next obsession.
Transference is an experience fit for VR, and from that perspective, the game does a phenomenal job of providing tension, scares, and narrative beats. Those looking for value may feel a little short-changed, especially so without the implementation of virtual reality, but the overall package should leave you satisfied if horror and terror is your forte.
