About this game

Developer: Platinum Games
Content Rating: Teen

The Legend of Korra is a single player, action-packed brawler, in which Korra’s mastery of martial arts and the four elements – fire, earth, air, and water – can be used on the fly to bolster her combos and counters against foes. Throughout the game, Korra’s polar bear-dog, Naga, will aid her in high-speed traversal segments. The game also brings to life the series’ competitive sport, Pro-Bending, in which teams of three use the elements to fight for territory in an arena.

While The Legend of Korra can be an entertaining game, camera issues and often frustrating difficulty spikes mean that the release never reaches the potential of its brilliant source material. For fans of the series, the four to six hour completion time coupled with good replay value will make the cheaper price tag worth a shot. For everyone else, though, this is a sometimes enjoyable but largely forgettable action romp.

The Legend of Korra is a game that has a clear understanding of the source material, but without the budget to really dig in and do that material justice. Platinum offers up a diet version of the gameplay that made it famous, which is still difficult enough to stymie casual players. For $15 though, fans may find the best Avatar game available.

That moment was the final straw, where I really started disliking my time with The Legend of Korra, but it's symptomatic of the game as a whole. It demonstrates a handful of good ideas but no proficiency at putting them to meaningful use. It's clear that Platinum has some understanding of what makes this cartoon so beloved by fans, but I can't fathom why it would settle for such a mediocre experience in light of that.
