Summary

STEINS;GATE ELITE is fully remastered with animated scenes from the anime, creating a perfectly new, immersive experience. The game follows a rag-tag band of tech-savvy young students who discover the means of changing the past via e-mail using a modified microwave. Their experiments in pushing the boundaries of time begin to spiral out of control as they become entangled in a conspiracy surrounding SERN, the organization behind the Large Hadron Collider, and John Titor, who claims to be from a dystopian future.

Despite some small annoyances that are either confusing or intrusive to the overall immersion that Steins;Gate Elite provides, this was a genuinely fun and engaging experience. In fact, because of how graphically close it is to the anime and how intense and complex the narrative is, Steins;Gate Elite is smooth as butter from start to finish and captures the true meaning of a graphic novel come to life.

Those minor problems aside, Steins;Gate Elite is definitely the best way to get into this property. It has all the charm of the anime, all the narrative excellence of the original, and a refinement that hasn’t existed in either up until this point. For new fans or veterans alike, Steins;Gate Elite is well worth the pick-up, and should represent a potential starting point for future visual novels looking to make a similar impact.

Steins;Gate didn’t exactly need a redo, but that doesn’t mean that fans of the original won’t absolutely love Steins;Gate Elite. The new scenes are great, if you don’t miss the stills that is, the ease of play is nice for those that aren’t a fan of complicated puzzles or stressful trials like in Phoenix Wright, and the six different endings make it worth multiple playthroughs.
