That said, the original’s degree of tension and regret over gameplay decisions are lost a little here and because of it, 0 — despite its successful transitioning, coming off more like a second half to a much grander tale as opposed to a totally sectioned-off story — often finds comfort in retreating to old techniques and former narrative inclusions to fill in the rare instances of figurative gaps
Steins;Gate 0 is an easy recommendation for players that enjoyed the first visual novel and want to see what could have happened had certain events turned out differently. It is a well-written adventure, with a great sense of tension and brilliantly-written characters. Against the odds, it manages to meet the rather hefty standards set by its predecessor, and that’s pretty high praise.
I went into Steins;Gate 0 with a level of hesitation and uncertainty. After all, its predecessor managed to wrap up its story fairly neatly, so I really didn't know how well a sequel would even work. Thankfully, Steins;Gate 0 does a fantastic job of continuing the story, to such an extent where I'd almost consider it to be mandatory for anyone with a fondness for the original visual novel.
