Sairento VR clearly focuses on gameplay. It is the most rewarding and badass game I have played in terms of combat and movement, and it's something that everyone should experience in VR if they have the chance. It's a gameplay sandbox that does enough to make you feel in control and gives you the opportunity to test different weapon combinations and relics to become an ultra-mobile ninja-killing machine. That may not hide the fact that it looks basic and is quite repetitive in terms of enemies, level design and mission objectives.
Don’t let Sairento VR fool you early on or dissuade you with its steep learning curve. Let the campaign reshape you in just how you tackle it. Let go of this being a simple horde challenge and buy into it being a type of dance. A dance where you perform a 10-minute symphony of death, stringing together kills in a ballet, leaving corpses behind you in the most glorious of ways. My advice? Take the red pill.
Is Sairento VR a masterpiece of technical innovation? Far from it. But despite its obvious visual and mechanical shortcomings, the game knows what it does well and takes every opportunity double-down on delivering this experience. You will find very few games on the PSVR that can provide a combat experience this frenetic, kinetic, and goddamn amusing. If you’re looking to take a slice out of crime and indulge your inner ninja, this one’s a cut above the rest.
