It’s technically sound, but it really does feel like it chose to play it safe in so many aspects that it’s disappointing. Saint Seiya: Soldiers’ Soul is a title that fans of the franchise will enjoy a lot, but unless this is a series you know, or one that you have have been thinking of checking out, you may just be better reading the serializations instead.
With a fighting system as shallow as a conversation with a cat, the single player mode boils down to which will break first: a newbie’s interest in the story or their boredom with the actual action. Trying to keep a second player’s interest for multiplayer based on the systems in place might be futile. Still, after the debacle of previous games based on this show, “passable for fans” is a step up.
Saint Seiya: Soldiers’ Souls packs tons of content that is sure to keep hardcore fans occupied for hours on end. However, the fast style of fighting gameplay may not be accessible for everyone. Not to mention not every character is effective in the game and the story is hard to follow for newbies to the franchise. Still, fighting game fans will find a lot of entertainment value here.
