There’s a lot to like about the approach that’s been taken with Regalia. The developers have taken a good story premise and weaved it into a game involving world building, classic text adventures, dungeon crawling, crafting, and social bond-building, as well as all the other fripperies you’d expect to find outside of the field of battle. The problem is that none of those strands are as fully formed as they’d need to be to be able to call the game a real success in any one area.
If you've been itching for a good strategy RPG, it's hard to go wrong with Regalia: Of Men and Monarchs on PS4. While it's a little rough around the edges, there's a clear passion behind the game that's endearing, and this shines through thanks to the title's colourful cast of characters and dedication to lighthearted humour.
For fans of tactical RPGs Regalia of Men and Monarchs is a must buy. The combat can be challenging and frustrating at times though there is a story mode available for people who would like a bit of a simpler game experience. Regalia had far more story and content in general than I was expecting going into the game and everything is executed really well.
