I found myself pleasantly surprised by Omen of Sorrow. I had no idea what to expect going in, and came out of it with plans to come back later and see how people, and particularly the FGC, end up responding to it. It’s a little rough around the edges in terms of polish and fidelity, but as a fighting game, it’s charmingly ambitious. Generally speaking, it has a cool vibe with neat interpretations of classic characters from dark storytelling’s past.

Omen of Sorrow gets a lot of things right with its solid gameplay and online mode, as well as solid cast of characters. This game, however, just fails to really stand out in any specific area that makes it worth picking up over any of the other big-hitting fighting games on the market right now like Dragon Ball FighterZ or Tekken 7.

Omen of Sorrow is an efficient and fun fighting game while in the heat of battle, but it trips getting to the arena. Barebones mode selection, a Story Mode that’s clumsy and doesn’t properly pay off, and some strange dialogue throughout keep the game from reaching full potential. The characters are really cool and the fighting system is worth learning, the game does succeed in that regard, but I still am left wanting more.
