Oceanhorn: Monster of Uncharted Seas is one of the most memorable and enjoyable experiences I have had in quite some time. The colors are vibrant, the story is both new and familiar, the hero and his controls are nostalgic, and the entire package together makes this one of the best action-adventure experience I have had in a long time.
The journey's ease is sometimes appreciated, but it defines the entire experience. The only ace in Oceanhorn's pocket is that it's a type of game that typically doesn't see much play outside Nintendo's platforms, and it does stand out in that way. It's still a fundamentally unimaginative example of the genre it's aping, and completely fades out of memory the second you remember there are other fish in the sea.
The team at Cornfox & Bros have put together a piece that fits comfortably into that Zelda mold and doesn’t do too much to innovate itself from its inspiration. If you’re looking for a comfortable experience that can bring back childhood memories of playing Zelda, Oceanhorn: Monster of Uncharted Seas fits quite neatly into that role and won’t take more than a few afternoons to finish. As a homage to the likes of A Link to the Past and The Wind Waker, Oceanhorn is a brief comfortable experience that can now be enjoyed on the big screen.
