Nuclear Throne is Vlambeers latest action roguelike-like about mutants that spend their workdays trying to fight for the throne in a post-apocalyptic world. The radioactive waste in the world allows mutants to get ahead by mutating new limbs on the fly and the abundant availability of powerful weaponry makes the quest to become the ruler of the Wasteland one fraught with peril. All of this is really just an excuse for us to make a fun action game.

Despite a learning curve to get around, the progression loop and monster attack patterns are manageable once you get a handle on them. While the core game can be completed by a skilled player in under an hour, plenty of roguelike randomness and challenges keep you coming back.
I have come to love and loathe Nuclear Throne. It's one of the hardest, most rewarding games I've ever played. But as satisfying as it can eventually become, I think it is far too demanding for its own good. With additional polish and balancing, this could be a masterpiece in the genre. It's not quite there yet, but it's close.
Vlambeer has done it yet again. The studio excels in crafting brilliant, replayable arcade experiences, and this is without doubt their finest work to date. The pixelart visuals are stylish and detailed, the audio work is great, and the game controls brilliantly.
