As the struggle for control increased between the Daimyos of the nations, tensions rose between the two great nations, each of which was home to one of the major schools of martial arts. The Compa Style which has mastered the Ninja Arts based on the Command Technique. The Honeypa Style which has mastered the Ninja Arts rooted in the Action Technique. The two camps were stuck in a ruthless competition of skill in order to achieve hegemony, but as they fought on, a mysterious army of mechanical ninjas made their assault. The mechanical ninja army overran the smaller nations in an instant, and its leader, Yoh Gamer, made an announcement to the world.

With all things considered, these types of games are rarely masterpieces, but they’re certainly experiences. Besides, sometimes it’s interesting to jump into an out-or-the-box title. I’d go so far as to recommend Neptunia X Senran Kagura, just to lay eyes on the lunacy. I, however, only do so if it’s found at a good discount. This isn’t worth the full price.

While the combat isn’t great, it is at least enjoyable for the most part, with some pretty challenging boss battles. Add in plenty of fan-service that some are sure to appreciate as well as post-game content, and you have a game that will keep those who gel with it entertained for many hours. Those unfamiliar with either property involved in this crossover, however, probably won’t find anything other than confusion and disappointment.

Neptunia x Senran Kagura: Ninja Wars is a good action RPG when it comes to delivering fun, but is lacking in overall depth. While combat has short and long-range attacks alongside dashing and even elemental attacks, every battle largely plays out in a similar way. There isn’t enough of a combo system at play to truly make things feel rewarding when you string things together and it can lead to the game getting longer in the tooth earlier than it should.
