Overall, Neon Abyss is, at most, enjoyable with the many features it offers. I like experimenting with characters and unlocking advanced items and being able to use them for free on a trial basis is an amusing perk. If patience isn’t your forte, then this might not be the game for you. It might be more enjoyable when there is an option to add another player whether online or offline. Maybe we will see it on the next DLC, maybe not?
Neon Abyss is a great example of a rogue-lite game that is done right. The visuals and soundtrack make exploration a lot of fun. The gun mechanics and crazy powerups make it a lot of fun to kill everything in sight. The game just falls a little short when it comes to random rooms. They are often very small and cluttered. It is easy to lose where your character is on the screen until you either die or everything else in the room is dead.
Neon Abyss is a fun, fast-paced twist on the rogue-like genre with a solid core gameplay loop. Although it brings new ideas to the table in the form of collectible eggs, and it has a good variety of weapons, enemies and synergies, it's not without its drawbacks. Performance issues, the lack of the genre's typical dodge button, and the chaotic room design all prevent Neon Abyss from being a must buy title.
