While it won’t change anyone’s thoughts about the base game, Road to Boruto is exactly what an expansion pack should be. It features a meaningful new campaign, which is fun whether or not you’ve seen the movie, several new characters, and does a good job of scratching the gaming itch for Naruto fans as otherwise there wouldn’t be a new game this year. It’s definitely worth picking up for those that enjoyed Ultimate Ninja Storm 4.

It’s great to see the life of this really fun 3D fighter extended with more content across the board. Picking up Ultimate Ninja Storm 4 again, the mechanics of the fighting are just as easy to get into and as exciting as they were on release. Road to Boruto doesn’t add a crazy amount of new content (and considering the anime movie is well over a year old by this point, not all that new), but what it does add is nothing but good. It would have been nice to see more, but there isn’t a whole lot more of the Boruto story out there yet.

Road to Boruto will give you the same great combat you’re used to, and the story is great, even if you’ve already watched last year’s Boruto movie. It’s a shame it doesn’t really offer anything special, but regardless, it’s still a decent expansion of the Naruto Shippuden videogame universe.
