Monster Energy Supercross 2 – The Official Videogame introduces some new and appealing aspects to the series. The Compound has the ability to be a game changer and the career mode is different on the surface. There are tons of customization options here, but ultimately it becomes a grind to purchase or unlock the items. Fans of the first game will ultimately love the changes, but the casual rider will have difficulty adjusting to the way the physics work and the actual racing.

I see the appeal in Monster Energy Supercross 2. For all the limits concerning presentation and graphical fidelity, you can feel how precise the gameplay can be with all the cranks turned to 11. If you’re looking for an accurate simulation of Supercross, this is going to satisfy. Even though this is a sequel, it feels like a foundation that can be built upon in future games, and I hope that Milestone expands the feature set the next time out. Maybe the studio can even throw us novices a bone.

In the end, Monster Energy Supercross 2 will intrigue veterans of the series with its deeper career mode, rhythm gameplay, and authentic AMA Motocross Championship presentation. Meanwhile, casual racing fans can hop in and have a lot of fun with the easy to learn controls and compound mode, however bugs and long load times will frustrate everyone.

Monster Energy Supercross – The Official Video Game 2 has a lot of great things going for it. The nice assortment of single-player modes, the decent multiplayer mode, and the vast customization options are all well executed. The track editor is easy to use and pretty robust. The sheer amount of licensed products in-game is just astonishing and really adds to the level of authenticity.

Monster Energy Supercross 2 is a mostly fluid and enjoyable two-wheeler experience, which hasn't been reinvented, but has been polished just enough to be a decent follow-up. The standard cynicism of incessant iterative cycles still applies here, because if Milestone gave themselves two years for this follow-up, it would be drastically better, rather than the usual half-step.

Presentation niggles and minor audio bugs aside, though, Monster Energy Supercross - The Official Videogame 2 (phew!) is a worthwhile purchase. Its scalable difficulty and length make for a title that supercross enthusiasts of all skill levels will be able to get enjoyment out of, while its wealth of content will keep fans slipping and soaring through its mud-soaked circuits for many hours.

So all in all, Supercross 2 does some great things – an enjoyable one player career with plenty of depth and customisation options, up to 12 player online racing, an excellent track editor plus a superb graphical representation of Supercross in all its dirty glory. The replay and photo mode deserve a mention too – with 22 riders bunched up on the small circuits, there are some great photo opportunities.

Outside the single-player options, there is also a track editor where you can upload creations for the world to try and it’s quite fun to see what outlandish things people come up with. The actual multiplayer side of things is limited to private matches and the lack of local multiplayer is a huge missed opportunity since the game is so accessible from a pickup and play aspect.
