About this game

Content Rating: Teen

This enhanced version of 2016's Mega dimension Neptunian VII features smoother graphics courtesy of a new engine, a revamped battle system, and a whole new VR experience. Now, their dimensions and yours are connected. Hang out one-on-one with each of the Gamindustri Goddesses, listen to their conversations, and watch as the Goddesses react to you. Gamindustri-a world sitting at the convergence of multiple dimensions. Of these existed the Zero Dimension, a world on the brink of collapse. Zero Dimension's last guardian, Uzume Tennouboshi, waged a war against a mysterious evil known as the Dark CPU. Her desperate cries for help crossed dimensions and reached Neptune, the CPU of Planeptune, who would leave her world to join the fight. Their fateful meeting would open the path to a new adventure. And once their world is saved, they'll join you in yours.

It can be a little too tempting to take a successful game, and just shoehorn odd-fitting tech into it. Merely taking the original Megadimension Neptunia VII, shifting its camera, and slapping a VR sticker onto the packaging would likely have resulted in a much worse game, because it was not originally designed for VR.

In the end, Megadimension Neptunia VIIR is a bit of an odd duck. Never have I seen a company market a feature that adds little to the overall package, yet gloss over other features that improve the gameplay to the point that it can actually stand as one of the strongest JRPGs out there.

Battles are conceptually interesting thanks to the new mechanics, along with an emphasis placed on character placement, which works quite well for boss fights, but starts to lose its lustre in smaller scale battles. Megadimension Neptunia VIIR isn't a bad RPG, but a slow battle system and a focus on grinding hardly make it a great one.
