I can’t stop thinking about this game. If I’m not playing it, I want to be. The web-slinging is brilliant, the combat is deceptively deep and diverse, and there are a million things to do. The story is emotional, resonant, and teases fans of the series in countless ways. It’s one of the best looking games of the year, and honestly, one of the best games I’ve ever played, full stop.

Spider-Man PS4 continues the awesome tradition we’ve seen emerge in the last decade or so of amazing licensed games. I wasn’t a huge fan of some of the more repetitive side activities, but I had a lot of fun in general and gained a new appreciation of Spider-Man, enough so that I’ll be checking out the comics when I get the time.
Adam BeckSep 04, 2018
This seems like a perfect fit to tell stories of lesser known or lower profile Spider-Man villains, but among the various side quests in the campaign, there’s only one that fits the bill. Regardless, Insomniac Games perfectly captures Peter Parker’s comical bravado, all while establishing a world ripe for its own unique expansion. In the end, Marvel’s Spider-Man is the most realized Spider-Man game yet.
Glen FoxSep 04, 2018
Ultimately, Marvel's Spider-Man is a must-buy, because no matter how you feel about our webbed superhero, this is just an insanely fun game to play, and it's so well put together. Just like the Arkham games did for Batman, this pretty much provides the definitive version of the Spider-Man universe outside of the comics, and leaves us begging to explore more of it in the inevitable sequel.
Alex Santa MariaSep 17, 2018
After what we got in Sunset Overdrive, I guess I expected something a bit more original. The combat has a few neat ideas, but it’s a modern take on what came before with little to say on its own. With so many other PS4 exclusives pushing the envelope in so many ways, Spider-Man lives in the past. Just like the ride at Islands of Adventure, it’s a thrilling journey, but it doesn’t last long and it feels just ever so slightly out of date.

Marvel's Spider-Man is at once a fantastic action game, a dramatic story-driven adventure, and a love letter to fans of Marvel's ever-endearing wall-crawler. It's also one of the strongest titles in Insomniac Games' catalog, and will no doubt be counted not only among the best games of 2018, but also among the best PlayStation 4 exclusives ever released.

It's a wonderful title that not only works as an amazing video game, but one that also just happens to star your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man. Here's hoping we see more of Spider-Man and the Avengers on home consoles... Just as long as they're not the umpteenth LEGO title.
Andrew ReinerSep 04, 2018
You feel like you’re doing everything he’s capable of. Insomniac succeeds in making Peter and the supporting cast just as memorable and engaging as the wall crawler. Excitement is delivered consistently from the outside of play right up to the last story frame, which is a real shocker that contains a reveal that will make the wait for the sequel almost unbearable.
Cade OnderSep 04, 2018
With an emotionally rich story, gameplay that fulfills childlike dreams of being a superhero, and an engaging world with no shortage of puddles, Marvel’s Spider-Man is not only the definitive Spider-Man game but one of the best games of the generation. Insomniac’s not playing the “greatest hits” of Spider-Man, they’re making a new era of the webhead that will go down as a groundbreaking age in superhero gaming.
Edmond TranSep 04, 2018
There have been open-world Spider-Man games before, but none so riveting and full of personality, none that explore and do justice to this many facets of the universe. Insomniac has created a superior Spider-Man experience that leaves a lasting impression, one that has you longing for just one more swing around New York City, even after the credits roll.
Josh HarmonSep 04, 2018
Does whatever a spider can, and pretty well, to boot. Marvel’s Spider-Man mixes the prestige ambitions of a Sony exclusive with the hyperkinetic fun of a great superhero game. It’s not a pairing you’d expect to work, but it mostly does here, though some aspects of the open-world design, like repetitive side content, let down the overall package.

All told, this game really is a masterpiece, one of the few games you'll want to complete 100% even if that's the kind of thing you hate doing. It's the best Spider-Man game ever made (yes, it's better than Spider-Man 2), and despite some head-scratching flaws, possibly the best superhero game ever made. Now if you'll excuse me, I have 3 more pigeons to catch, 4 more Taskmaster challenges to complete, 4 more landmarks to photograph, and 11 more backpacks to find.
Mike MinottiSep 04, 2018
Marvel’s Spider-Man is the best superhero game since Batman: Arkham Asylum. The swinging, combat, and New York City itself come together to create a Spider-Man experience that is exciting and faithful to the character. If you’ve ever been a fan of Spidey, you need to check out his newest digital adventure.
Mike WilliamsSep 04, 2018
Insomniac Games takes Marvel's most popular character for a spin and the results are fantastic. The developer establishes its own Spider-Man with a unique supporting cast and a beautiful recreation of New York to play around in. This is an absolutely beautiful game, with solid combat and a great story. Most of all, it really sells the feeling of being Spider-Man. The gaming history of Spider-Man has been uneven, but this is an amazing entry in that history. Pun intended.
Colm AhernSep 04, 2018
Despite that, zipping through the metropolis of New York City is utterly magnificent, and going toe-to-toe with brutes is brilliant. Taking an established character and crafting a compelling original story that honours what’s come before, Insomniac Games has created something that all True Believers are sure to love.
Jonathon DornbushSep 04, 2018
I wanted Marvel’s Spider-Man on PS4 to make me feel like Spider-Man: To sail between the highrises of New York City, to nimbly web up hordes of enemies, and tussle with familiar, animal-themed villains. Insomniac Games’ first foray into the world of Marvel handily delivers on all of that. But what I didn’t expect from Spider-Man was to come away feeling just as fulfilled to have inhabited the life of Peter Parker.
Anthony TaorminaSep 04, 2018
From the story to the exploration to the combat to seemingly endless upgrades, Spider-Man is packed full of things worth doing and that are fun to do. Insomniac Games has made it seem effortless with the way they can bring this character to life in all the ways a video game can. Spider-Man is a great superhero game, a great PS4 exclusive, but most importantly a great game all its own.
William SchwartzSep 04, 2018
Spider-Man games have a long history of being disappointing on some level, but Insomniac has crafted a game worthy of the name. They’ve managed to capture the essence of what controlling Spider-Man should feel like and surrounded this core idea with an incredible presentation and level of depth that few games using the Spider-Man license have.
Kai PowellSep 10, 2018
Insomniac has found a way to weave together the human side of Peter Parker with the combat and web-slinging of Spider-Man to create a web of intrigue that any PlayStation 4-owning superhero fan should play.
Aaron MainSep 04, 2018
Some persistent issues might hold Spider-Man back from the incredible heights many were hoping it would touch, but a strong core, a great love and respect for its source material, and a number of incredibly fun mechanics make it a dream come true for fans of the famous wall-crawler.
Ken McKownSep 04, 2018
Spider-Man is yet another outstanding title in Sony’s first party library. PS4 owners should not hesitate to snag it when it drops. The quality they put into these titles is impressive and Insomniac continues to prove they can deliver on big-budget titles. Even with its minor gripes I still thoroughly enjoyed my time with Spidey and the gang. Perhaps we will see another one in the years to come, but for now this is the best our web-slinger has been since the early days of the PS2 era.

Making up for all of the sins of the webhead's past, Marvel's Spider-Man is easily one of Insomniac's finest moments, the studio showing a full understanding of what makes the character tick, creating a definitive Spidey experience that's utterly sublime. Excelsior!
Chandler WoodSep 04, 2018
Marvel’s Spider-Man doesn’t innovate on the open-world genre, but Insomniac doubled down on creating a spectacular Spider-Man fantasy. It simply feels good to travel through Peter Parker’s New York as the webslinger, even if whatever Spidey-suit you choose is covering a competent and entirely expected open-world formula.
Chris McSep 13, 2018
Marvel’s Spider-Man has clearly been a labour of love for Insomniac, and each time you play you’ll pick up on the sheer attention to detail they’ve paid to the game. Like the way that if you web a villain to an object you can still then throw that object, with the miscreant still attached. Or that that there’s two sets of dialogue, one for when Spider-Man’s resting and one for when he’s exerting himself.
Ben PackSep 05, 2018
Through upgrades to Spidey’s suit, gadgets, and skill tree the combat blossoms from adequate to enthralling over the course of the game. Some ill-conceived stealth sequences hold the game back a bit, but overall, Marvel’s Spider-Man raises the bar for what a licensed open-world game can be in the same way that the Marvel Cinematic Universe has reshaped superhero movies.
Jenni LadaSep 04, 2018
The sidequests give you excuses to explore the city and swing through the skies. I do wish that the differences between difficulty levels was a little more obvious, as I felt the Friendly difficulty level might not have been amiable enough to allow less skilled or younger players to enjoy the adventure. Overall, Marvel’s Spider-Man does the hero justice.
Callum WilliamsSep 14, 2018
Not only is Marvel’s Spider-Man a monumental achievement for Insomniac Games and Sony, but it’s also a landmark moment for the superhero genre in general. Much like Arkham Asylum back in 2009, Spider-Man is the benchmark for other titles to follow, its ambitious design and serious take on its character crafting an experience that is quintessential for his fans. After 20 hours within this world, you realise its more than just an entertaining game; it’s an unforgettable Spider-Man story as well.

Blade Strangers is a fine fighting game. It has a simple mindset, but a very complex nature that allows the newcomers to pop in and have a fun time learning the ins and outs while veterans can dive deep into the systems and have just as much fun. It is a fast and nimble fighting game with a lot of flashy combos that fans of the genre can appreciate. I can only hope that this niche fighter will gather a player base.
Chris CarterSep 04, 2018
Spider-Man isn't just a great superhero game, it's a proof of concept for Insomniac as a company. This project shows that they can basically handle pretty much any universe, because if you can accurately recreate Peter Parker's nimbleness and gentle heart you can do anything: and with multiple teasers at the end, I think they'll get that chance.
Léon Othenin-GirardSep 11, 2018
With all the freedom it gives you to web-sling through New York City and stick goons to walls, Spider-Man for PS4 is the best Spider-Story I've had the pleasure to experience, and even on its own is a brilliant game.
Leon HurleySep 04, 2018
Nonetheless Spider-Man is still a hugely enjoyable adventure full of great characters and moments, and just about one of the best videogame realisations of superheroing to date. Insomniac are a studio with nearly 25 year's experience of producing slick, tactile action adventures that feel great to play, and seeing that expertise turned to a licensed game has created an impressively, polished and crafted experience.
Giuseppe NelvaSep 04, 2018
Whether you’re just swinging around the city searching for the many landmarks and collectibles, or fighting crime by flexing Spidey’s amazing super-powers and gadgets, Marvel’s Spider-Man is a really a pleasure to play at all times. I can say with absolute confidence that this is by far the best superhero game I ever played.
GameCentralSep 04, 2018
Almost every element has been seen before in previous Spider-Man or Batman games. Gameplay lacks depth and variety and the semi-grounded storytelling can be rather dull. The best Spider-Man game ever made… but only just, since it fails to move the superhero video game genre forward in any important way.
Gareth ChadwickSep 04, 2018
Marvel’s Spider-Man does a spectacular job of making you feel like the ultimate Spider-Man. From swinging through the city at high speed to fighting off legions of enemies by zipping between them and pulling them into the air, its gameplay looks like a scene from the films. It’s remarkably well realised in terms of its world, design, and even technically, with short loading times and a rock solid framerate even on the base PlayStation 4.
Rex HindrichsSep 27, 2018
A few shortcomings keep Spider-Man from perfection, but with this game Insomniac has built the perfect foundation for a future masterpiece. Until that day comes, patrolling the streets of New York and keeping its citizens safe as the friendly neighborhood spider has never felt better.
David LovatoJan 25, 2019
There are myriad good reasons why Marvel's Spider-Man is the best-selling and highest-rated Spider-Man title in years. While it has a few glaring flaws, they pale in comparison to all of the things the team at Insomniac got right. A well-acted, strong story serves as the backbone for an experience that just plain feels right for Spider-Man, and fans and newcomers alike won't be disappointed by this trip to the Spider-verse.
Chris WhiteSep 04, 2018
Everything I hoped it would be and more. Marvel's Spider-Man provides us lots to do, a great story, and some of the best visuals available on the PS4.
Sam BishopSep 04, 2018
It departs from the other games we've seen with its own unique take, while at the same time keeping all that crucial flavour that Spider-Man is known for. The result is a spectacular adventure that ends up being way more than just another superhero game. Whether you're new to the Spider-Man universe or think you know everything there is to know about him, trust us: this will surprise you.
Cole WatsonSep 04, 2018
Whether you are a just a fan of the movies or a devout reader of the comics, Spider-Man is a console exclusive everyone who own as PlayStation 4 needs to experience. Its powerful cast of characters and addictive open-world gameplay have laid the groundwork for a wealth of expansions through DLC and sequels and I could not be more excited to see what this talented studio has in store for fellow true believers.
John-Paul JonesSep 04, 2018
A welcome return for PlayStation's original superhero icon, Insomniac Games have not just given us another sublime PlayStation exclusive but also the best superhero blockbuster the PS4 has ever seen. Spider-Man is a thunderous, essential triumph that bleeds cinematic splendor from every digital pore. Every PS4 owner needs to have Spider-Man in their collection.
Brodie GibbonsSep 05, 2018
It’s hard to fault Marvel’s Spider-Man as Insomniac has taken their game to the next level. As a developer, they have gone from strength to strength and Spider-Man is a culmination of their past hits. There’s a stunning verticality that compliments the game’s watertight mechanics and, despite the literal boundaries, still makes the city seem boundless.
Dan GraysonSep 05, 2018
They've done it folks, Insomniac has made one of the best superhero games I've ever played. Marvel's Spider-Man is yet another exclusive jewel in both Insomniac Games and Sony's crown. They're going to need a scepter to go with that thing soon.
Steve FarrellySep 05, 2018
I keep coming back to confidence in design and storytelling, and there’s a reason for that: this is the game this studio was seemingly tailored to make and once again Sony now has another top-shelf Triple-A exclusive under their belt. This is absolute “buy a PS4 (Pro) for” (it looks AMAZING on a 4K HDR screen).
