Summary

With the fate of the Eternity Forge decided, the Guardians are left more bitterly divided than ever. But this growing tension is temporarily sidelined by a more pressing problem: escaping a dark and treacherous cavern before they all get eaten alive. As the cave’s hidden threats creep closer, Star-Lord must hold his crew together if he hopes to keep everyone safe. Safety, however, may ultimately come at a terrible cost.

Episode Four - Who Needs You showcases the best and worst of the Guardians series so far. The jokes repeatedly fall flat, the story is largely irrelevant, and the characters are still pale imitations of their big screen counterparts, but after a fantastically dull first hour, the episode manages to conjure up some surprisingly poignant moments in order to make the second half the highlight of the series so far.

Who Needs You is probably the best episode of Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy: The Telltale Series yet. Sadly, that isn’t saying much. Up until this point, the series has been noticeably unable to keep up the quality it’s needed to make the season worth it. This may be the best episode, but this is also the penultimate episode and the season needed quality well before this. Telltale has one more chance to salvage something from the season, but it seems unlikely to happen.

Overall, Guardians of the Galaxy: A Telltale Series turns the series around from perhaps its weakest episode to perhaps its strongest. With a refocus on the dynamics of the Guardians as a team rather than the main plot line, Telltale appears to have repositioned themselves into a better perspective with which to enter the final act. With this episode, we can also begin to see how certain plotlines are coming together now that we near the end.
