All in all, Lonely Mountains: Downhill is a tough bike racer that features a variety of challenges and relaxing, alluring levels. The physics engine that powers your bike is strong, however, the challenge of manipulating the bike when the controls are repeatedly flipping is difficult to manage and a little frustrating at times. With this being said, each of the gorgeous mountains will not hesitate to fascinate as you blast down them at a gnarly speed.
It’s a moreish experience, buoyed by outstanding controller response and a compelling reward loop. Occasional framerate hiccups threaten to wrestle control out of your hands, but instances of this are generally uncommon. This is a very different kind of two-wheeled platforming to the recent Trials Rising, but it scratches the same kind of itch – arguably more effectively, too.
A serene and pretty aesthetic sits atop a brutal but satisfying arcade downhill bike game which wears its retro stylings and simplicity with pride. A fine game for all and not just for MAMILS!
