Little Witch Academia: Chamber of Time
Trailer, Gameplay, & Screenshots
About this game
Developer: BANDAI NAMCO Entertainment Inc.
Content Rating: Mature
The protagonist and her friends have to discover the reason behind a series of strange events in the academy. The gameplay is divided into two parts. In the exploration part, you walk around the 3D world, talk to NPCs, complete quests, and develop relationships with other students. The quests resemble battle games, in which you move to the right side of the screen and fight hordes of enemies in an arcade-like system, using a wide range of attacks and spells.

If you're a Little Witch Academia fan, you may enjoy it even if for the nostalgia. If not, I'm not too sure you'll enjoy it much. I find it pretty hard to think platform fighter fans would jump into this game and find it fun. It's very aimed at the fans of the anime and I can see that the developers hoped that simple fact would draw in the sales numbers.
Overall, Little Witch Academia: Chamber of Time is both a fun experience for fans of the series as well as a good introduction for others. While the gameplay is a bit repetitive, it is still enjoyable, and both the visuals and audio make it a joy to experience. As someone who only watched a couple episodes of the anime before diving into the game, playing the game made me want to go back and continue watching.
Little Witch Academia: Chamber of Time is truly a terrible video game. There are signs of mediocrity between the seams, but it operates on such a fundamentally flawed level that it turns into a wrestling match between my sanity and its systems. I don’t know if it runs noticeably better on a PS4 Pro or the PC version, but an increase in technical performance does not excuse it of all the flaws in its design. I consider myself a fan of Little Witch Academia and Chamber of Time sometimes made me wish that I wasn’t.
