There's no shortage of content in Lego The Hobbit. ...There are also plenty of optional side quests to complete across Middle-earth, but they all involve the same tedious mechanics employed by the story quests. Lego The Hobbit proves that having plenty of variety in terms of objectives and gameplay mechanics doesn't make much difference if none of those objectives and mechanics are much fun, and that capturing the look of an epic quest isn't the same as capturing the feel of one.

LEGO The Hobbit is a fun little game that serves its purpose well. It’s a good game for kids to play and fans of Peter Jackson’s film trilogy will get a kick out of it. It would have been nice if Traveller’s Tales strived to innovate its LEGO formula and included content from The Hobbit: There and Back Again. It’s a fun game, yes, but never escapes the shadow of better LEGO games.

Lego The Hobbit is, if not the best Lego game, then closely matched with the top entries in the series. It expands the series repertoire with new mechanics and better quest navigation. It still has some of the series trademark flaws, but there's even more to recommend the child-friendly series of games now. Traveller's Tales has built a compelling new entry in their franchise, brick by brick.
