Episodic games can be tough to evaluate without seeing the story as a whole, since effective storytelling relies on narrative peaks and valleys. I don't expect every chunk of a multipart tale to knock my socks off, but this abrupt shift in density and quality of puzzles is tough to ignore. I'm hopeful that the series is able to conclude on a high point, and that this was just an unfortunate misfire.
It felt like the pacing was done rather well, and it seems The Odd Gentlemen have truly hit their stride this time. Only time will tell just what will happen to Graham and his family, both in the past and the present. Will Daventry get a new King, or Queen? What’s going to happen to Manny? Stay tuned for the final chapter, it’s sure to be a doozy.
The puzzle design misses the cleverness that made the previous chapters so much fun, rendering the penultimate chapter an extreme disappointment as a game, doubly so as the previous chapter was the best in the series. It appears that the pattern is that the odd numbered chapters are superior to the even ones. That’s fine; it just means that Chapter 5 is something worth anticipating.
