Precious little of the Shonen Jump magic shines through the one-note fighting and poorly written story. It’s a shame, too, seeing as how diverse the character representation is (as opposed to focusing on the popular stuff). But even as a fan of Hunter x Hunter, Bleach, JoJo’s, and some of the other great series represented here, J-Stars Victory Vs.+ completely failed to ignite that fandom into a genuine desire to play.

In many ways, J-Stars Victory Vs+ is reminiscent of Dragon Ball Xenoverse, with its simple brawling, flashy anime characters, and even flashier special attacks. But while DBX was, at times, more fun and impressive, it was also much glitchier and more exasperating. J-Stars Victory Vs+ is more middle-of-the-road bad— it's never especially frustrating, but it's also never especially exciting.

Loads of characters, a decent selection of modes and plenty of fan service can’t hide the fact that J-Stars Victory VS+ is a dull, repetitive, shallow and ultimately tiresome brawler.
