Gauntlet Slayer Edition is a fantastic co-op game, and a decent solo experience. Fighting is fun, simple, and the addiction of one more level or getting more gold is as real as ever. That being said, if you’re expecting this Gauntlet to be more like Dark Legacy or more colorful and zany, think again. Gauntlet Slayer edition harkens back to a re-imaging of the classic game that started it all.
The changes to potions and relics will also have you balancing your team appropriately and each hero feels like they really fit a role now. Each hero can actually have a sort of build due to the changes to weapon abilities as well, and there’s some good diversity here. For twenty dollars you can expect at least four or five hours of fun, which is decent, but nothing extraordinary. If you have some friends to play this with or are a die-hard Gauntlet fan, it’s a good buy and worth a shot.
Increasing the difficulty doesn't make for any drastic change beyond the enemies taking more damage, so Gauntlet: Slayer Edition will likely only become a long-term dungeon crawl for those looking to buy every possible weapon, ability, and article of clothing for their chosen hero. ...Gauntlet: Slayer Edition streamlines the combat and adds a bit more replay value to last year's release, but there still isn't quite enough meat on this dungeon crawler's bones.
