All in all, a pretty mediocre first episode of something that should have delivered greatness. Yes, there’s going to be five more episodes, so it’s too early to dismiss the entire game, but sadly I’m not excited for the next instalment. I want to be, and I hope the next chapter changes my mind, but at the moment, the characters don’t grab me and make me want to know what’s going to happen.

The premiere episode in Telltale’s Game of Thrones series does a lot of things right. Certainly, it manages to capture the political overtones as well as the high fantasy setting of the series it is based on, and it does them justice, bringing in new characters and plots not adapted from the book series. That’s an achievement in itself, and while it doesn’t stray too much from Telltale’s formula, it adapts an excellent property to something which we’ve seen hit the mark time and time again.

The voice acting from the known characters – Tyrion, Cersei, Ramsay Snow and Margaery Tyrell all feature – is perfectly fine, although the script is at times slightly twee (barring some awkwardly shoehorned swearing). As debuts go this lags behind those of The Walking Dead and The Wolf Among Us, but there's promise… and the ending means you've GOT (*ahem*) to play the follow-up.
