Final Fantasy XIV Online: A Realm Reborn proves that Square Enix’s series is special, even when it’s presented as an MMO. ...The narrative could still use an overhaul, and the PvP content isn’t up to the standard of the rest of the game, but the added horsepower of Sony’s new system and overall improvements since its PS3 launch mean that you shouldn’t think twice about taking the trip to Eorzea this time around.
Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn on PS4 is better balanced and more fun than the already excellent PS3 version was at launch. ...New features help new players catch up with experienced veterans while concurrently giving the veteran players something to push toward. Overall, A Realm Reborn comes close to being a perfect mix of hardcore and casual role-playing, and comes highly recommended as a result.
Patch 2.5 is definitely a table-setting update, but it's filled with good content while players wait for the expansion to get here. Since everything else will arrive over the course of the next two months, I'll be covering it as each portion drops, so stay tuned for that augmented coverage. While 2.5 may not be enough to woo old players back into the fray on its own, I have a feeling that all of the fluff coming before the expansion will be a perfect excuse to return.
