About this game
Content Rating: Teen
Daydreamer: Awakened Edition is the story of the last human who rouses from an eternal sleep to an unfamiliar Earth. Aliens took over the planet thousands of years ago, and the nameless protagonist was kept in a stasis chamber as a twisted relic to memorialize their victory. However, the mysterious Immortal Gate Keeper liberates her and sets her on a dangerous expedition to the Earth’s core. Be warned though—the aliens will do whatever it takes to get their trophy back, and the Earth is filled with frightening creatures that hunger for human flesh.

The art style and creature design is among the highlights; the graphics are what made me take interest in this game and the gameplay was good enough to maintain it. With so many retro-style games using 16-bit graphics, it’s nice that we are getting some titles that illustrate what an old school game with modern graphics could be.
Daydreamer had the potential to be a sleeper hit in the Summer of lacking game releases, sadly it falls short on the most important of game fundamentals. I wanted to love this game a lot more than I do, but it just misses all the important notes in its execution.
As a gamer of over 30 years, I truly understand the impulse to bring back old-school mechanics and had they been executed well, Daydreamer: Awakened Edition would be an easy game to recommend. However, this isn’t the case and I find it to be one of the worst games I’ve played this year. There are far better options available to you, seek those out instead.
