Gameplay in Squadron 51 does not differ too much from the standards of the genre and, to a large extent, resembles games such as Sine Mora or Sky Force. We observe the action from the side, guiding the plane through the constantly moving scenery. Various enemies stand in our way. Some are small and fast, some larger but slow, others cover half of the screen and shoot with a huge laser, and so on. Therefore, we have to be on the move at all times, avoiding incoming missiles and enemies themselves, at the same time trying to shoot them down. Every defeated enemy gives us points - they are all added up in the final score.

The year is 2042 and the state of the planet has been in decline: bankrupt governments and ruthless dictators are plentiful, while selfish corporations rule the world.
