It was fun, especially if you enjoy Metroidvania style games or Greek mythology. I’m excited to see more from Alientrap in the future. With previous titles Nexuiz and Capsized, they’ve already got a strong track record established for the independent market. In the meantime, I’ll get back to unlocking all the secrets of Olympus.

The art, as you're likely already aware, is also stunning, modelled after ancient Greek pottery. We really liked the way the different areas employed slightly altered colour palettes, with Poseidon's section opting for blues, while Hades sticks with blacks. Apotheon is not perfect, but it's still more than fit for a God. Minor crashing and design issues aside, this gorgeously presented action platformer packs plenty of variety beneath its pottery-inspired shell. Plus, who doesn't love Greek mythology?

Beyond Apotheon’s amazing presentation and story is a clunky, combat-heavy Metroidvania that rarely ever pushes players outside their comfort zone. The controls are already weak and frustrating, but even they pale in comparison to a combat system that can be easily abused. Apotheon doesn’t challenge the way it should, and with so many available weapons and tools, it’s insulting that the action is so one-note.
