Unfortunately the underlying gameplay is a dull affair that gamers have seen many times before. Little is done to take the variety of options and extend it into the actual mission structure, causing the game to feel like one long stretch of the same thing. And the poorly designed levels make it so navigating the field of play is rarely an enjoyable experience by itself. There is little to compel most players to pick up Tiny Troopers: Joint Ops unless they really want a new dual-stick shooter to while away a few hours.

It’s the repetitiveness that really hurts Tiny Troopers: Joint Ops – there’s just not a lot else to see beyond the first few missions. There are some good ideas here – the squad system being the real highlight – but relatively easy gameplay and flawed AI let it down. Worse still, at the time of writing, this series is free on mobile platforms, meaning that even with cross-buy, it’s a purchase that’s somewhat hard to justify.

Tiny Troopers has a great deal of content for a small price. You get two twin stick shooter campaigns with leveling up, various missions, and even a few unlockables like a zombie horde mode. I feel the game sets out what it wants to accomplish and I had a better time with it on PS3 versus PC. For the price and the amount of game play here, highly recommend this to any fan of the genre.
