Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed is a joy to play and look at. The icing on this delicious multilayered racing cake is that the game launches at a relatively budget price of $39.99, despite being a quality product that would warrant a higher price tag. It has occasional technical glitches, but it's a high-quality experience that deserves a spot on the winner's podium with some of the best kart racers you've ever seen.

Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed is a feel-good game that’s difficult to dislike. It may not be quite as revolutionary as its title indicates, but it’s still a forward-thinking racer with some outstanding tracks. Difficulty spikes and some minor technical issues detract from its overall appeal, but this is still one of the best kart racers available on the PS3.

This is a smart and engaging kart racer, then, but it makes a particularly dumbfounded choice by locking many of its characters and courses into the lengthy Career mode, with players knocking off multiple event types as they progress across a series of worlds and branching pathways. It's a standard and moderately entertaining bit of single-player racing, but it's a shame to see such an innately multiplayer game require a tricked-out save file before it can be fully appreciated by a group of people huddled around a sofa.
