Combat-wise, it isn't a lick better or worse than any of the previous Musou games Omega Force has churned out, but if you still find this particular brand of action enjoyable, there's just enough fun to outweigh some of the dubious design snafus. But make no bones about it,: this is Musou by the numbers. You can't get more risk averse than a Dynasty Warriors clone with an anime license attached, and it plays as derivative as it sounds.

The voice acting and music are great, the graphics and presentation are superb, the source material is interesting and hilarious, and there's an addictive leveling and item-collection system in place as a reward for battle. Though tedious and uninspired, battles can still be fun, and it's obvious that a lot of work and polish has gone into making this game worthy of the One Piece empire.

But no matter how you play it, One Piece: Pirate Warriors is a tedious game; the energy of its characters and animations contrasts sharply with the tiresome gameplay. This 50-dollar, 11-gigabyte game isn't worth the cost or the significant amount of time it takes to download. If you're looking to spend some quality time with Luffy and his pirate crew, you're better off sticking to the pages of a manga or the scenes of an anime.
