Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch is a masterpiece, lovingly crafted by both teams at Level-5 and Studio Ghibli. It's bursting with so much character, humour, strength, and sorrow that it's impossible to put down. The lively animation and whimsical design is flawless, with memorable characters that will stay with you throughout your entire gaming career.

Overall, Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch has impressed me a great deal. It’s convinced me that while the genre isn’t as mainstream as it once was, the potential to make a comeback is surely there – as long as it’s done properly and with care. To put it simply, Ni no Kuni learns from the mistakes of its predecessors by being a more approachable experience, while still incorporating the traditional RPG elements that made these games so popular in their heyday.

Ni no Kuni's combat, side quests and puzzles never come close to matching the imagination on display in its visuals. I was charmed, but always by stuff surrounding the gameplay — never by the gameplay itself. Level-5 hasn't created a bad game but an inconsistent one that doesn't seem to understand its own strengths and weaknesses. The flashy look and cheerful tone will pull some people through, but at its core, Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch is missing a chunk of its heart that's hard to ignore.
