And that's where Hot Pursuit really shines for me -- the online competition. The Hot Pursuit mode itself is just fantastic when played online against (and with) real people. There's a surprisingly deep level of strategy involved, but mostly a whole lot of fun. It really is something that feels infinitely replayable; digging its hooks in and not letting you go.

Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit is one of the most thrilling racing games around. It doesn't matter which side of the law you prefer to play on; the unpredictable nature of these events and the sheer speed at which they're played make this a tough game to put down. If you're in the market for a ride with superb handling, great looks, an impressive top speed, and more than enough room for all of your friends, this is the one you want.

Though the sim-style of racing has gained exponentially in popularity, I would challenge even the most hardened simulation elitist to give this title a try and not crack a smile. Sure, Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit has plenty of over-the-top action and some serious high-speed hi-jinks that wouldn't fly in any other series, but the game is plenty of fun, and certainly worth the time of any fan of the automotive genre. Plus, any game that makes the sound of cop sirens feel exhilarating instead of dreadful is bound to be a good time!
