Other than this grumble, there's little I can complain about with this release. If you're new to rock-rhythm games then you might be better off with either World Tour or Rock Band 2, since both titles offer more songs and a greater range of musical genres. On the other hand, if you're a big fan of Metallica and metal in general then this has everything you could want - just don't go expecting any massive innovation.

Guitar Hero: Metallica is nearly everything that a fan would want. An amazing track list compiling important songs from every album of the bands history, solid character animations of the band, accurate representations of the stages the band has played on that fans will recognize, a digital "diary" of the band, and even special attacks in the Battle mode. There's not much else you could ask for. Guitar Hero: Metallica sets the bar for upcoming band-specific titles.

You can use some Metallica samples in the music creation mode. Many venues important to the band’s career have been included. There’s also a ton of extra Metallica memorabilia: photos, obscure videos and trivia. The visual look is darker and more subdued as well, with black and gray tones often replacing the series’ usual Garish color palette. Which, like the rest of Guitar Hero: Metallica, is simply the most metal way to do it.
