Expanding on the gorgeous PS2 action title, this next-gen follow-up continues the mystical tales of ancient Japan by game designer Yoshiki Okamoto's Game Republic studio. Set three years after the last chapter of Genkuro Yoshitsune's life, the game continues to expand on the historical accounts of feudal Japan. The game delived more than double the amount of gameplay, more diverse levels of fighting, and more playable characters -- all underlying an epic tale of a warrior's honor.

Genji: Days of the Blade is a solid hack 'n' slash adventure let down by poor level design and a bad camera system. Fans of the previous game will no doubt find some enjoyment in the often stunning presentation, but action game fans on the whole will find the whole experience far too frustrating. There are far better PlayStation 3 games to spend your money on.

Genji: Days of the Blade is an example of this effect because this really is an average, forgettable game that's only interesting because there aren't many other PS3 games to choose from yet. It's worth checking out if only as evidence of what Sony's new system can do from a graphical perspective; however, its 10-or-so hours of repetitive combat shouldn't be the tipping point for anyone who wants to justify getting a PS3.

You'll also be able to switch between four warriors on the fly, each with their own upgradeable combos and special abilities. Acrobatic swordsman Yoshitsune returns from the first game with a new complement of Prince of Persia-style moves, and he's got his hulking, giant-pillar-swinging retainer Benkei in tow.
