Escape Dead Island should be avoided at all costs. The moment to moment gameplay is intolerable as you have to endure dull combat, an insulting lead character, and redundant backtracking through ugly environments. Pile on the game-stopping technical nightmares, and it all amounts to being one of the worst games of the year. It's not worth digging through corpses to salvage it.
I can’t call Escape Dead Island a bad game, but I really can’t call it a good game either. It truly rides that line of mediocrity without falling into either camp too heavily. If you’re curious, I’d say go for it. It does enough right to make it worthwhile to play through for those that can enjoy themselves despite some missteps. If you are a skeptic or just plain nitpicky about your games, you’ll find enough to hate with Escape Dead Island that you are probably better off playing something else.
There are lots of times when Escape Dead Island shows potential, whether its story or some of the level design towards the conclusion, but it feels as though not enough thought and time was put into making sure there was an enjoyable, or even fully-functioning game holding it all up. Escape Dead Island was almost a good experience, there was just six hours of terrible gameplay holding it back.
