A reinvigorated McRae rally ride, built for next-gen systems for the realistic feel of racing off-road. This edition goes beyond the series' point-to-point rallying to deliver its most diverse selection of extreme off-road competitions yet. Sensational gravel, mud and dirt racing events from the world over will include perilous Hill Climb, collision-packed Rally Cross events, and grueling C.O.R.R. (Championship Off-Road Racing) events. The game also features international rallying competitions, with official cars on tracks based on real roads and locations around the globe. McCrae expands on beat-the-clock racing and include events with multiple cars on track to satisfy gamers who want to push their on-the-edge driving further.

That said, the multiplayer support is really the only thing about DiRT you can call truly disappointing. On every other front, DiRT delivers a racing experience that's a lot of fun to play, as well as visuals that are an absolute joy to watch. The PS3 version's inclusion of a steadier frame rate, slightly better audio quality, and support for the Logitech G25 force feedback steering wheel helps define it as the best of the bunch.

Colin McRae: Dirt is a solid and often spectacular effort from Codemasters. The core racing is thrilling yet accessible and the amount of content on offer will keep players enthralled for some time. Improvements over the Xbox 360 release are minimal at best, but that shouldn't stop PS3 gamers adding another off-road racer to their collection.

Sure, some of Codies tactics in 'going mainstream' are a tad irksome, but in the main the game succeeds by not only being exceptionally good fun to play, but being unquestionably one of the finest looking racing games on the market too. With only an undercooked online element and pointless truck racing detracting from the package, it more than makes up for these aberrations elsewhere. Codemasters did Colin proud.
