Explore the human condition and manipulate time as our hero Tim leaps onto the PlayStation Network in the lush, painterly world of Braid, a puzzle-platformer that takes you from a house in the city on a journey through a series of worlds to solve puzzles and rescue the princess. In each world, you have a different power to affect the way time behaves, including the ability to rewind, create parallel realities and utilize time dilation to overcome the many obstacles in your path. There is no filler in this game; every puzzle shows you something new and interesting about the game world.

Braid is a beautiful, smart and challenging game and certainly worth checking out. Although the difficulty can be a little surprising at times, the overall experience is rewarding enough to warrant working through the puzzles. Despite the short length and somewhat limited replay value, Braid's artistic vision and intelligent design is more than enough reason to download the game right away. Jonathan Blow's notoriety in the indie landscape is well deserved.

I was initially pretty skeptical about Braid, and it took me some time to get past the game's severe melancholy. I eventually found the game's story and the way it plays against the gameplay to be academically interesting, and the game's final payoff is terrific, but it's the ingenuity of the mechanics that makes Braid so engaging.

That's not an argument against it though. In a way, it's kind of ironic. Braid is free to be interpreted as a game or a piece of art. Either way, it's just as delightful.
