It's not until the very end of The Betrayal that things begin to get interesting again, and having to trudge through the rest of the episode to reach that point is a lot to ask, even if you're already heavily invested in the story. Lots of side missions and collectible memory artefacts help to ease the disappointment, but they're not enough to make The Tyranny of King Washington - The Betrayal the exciting follow-up the first entry hinted at. Here's hoping Episode Three picks up the pace.

I’d love to be able to offer a positive recommendation for this ongoing DLC project; I’m completely on board with the unique premise. Sadly, this second installment is a letdown. I mentioned in my write-up for The Infamy that the verdict is still out, and the sum of The Tyranny of King Washington may ultimately make it worthwhile. If episode two is any indication, that sum is looking small indeed.

Though its approach doesn't always succeed, it's comforting to see Ubisoft experiment with the franchise so it doesn't become stale; Assassin's Creed III may not deliver on the revolution that was promised, but it keeps hope alive that we might see one in the not-so-distant future.
