We may have been the last to get this, but PSN owners weren't really crying out for yet another tower defense game. Luckily, 11 Bit Studios has crafted something that feels markedly different from the already diverse offerings PlayStation 3 owners can choose from. The lack of online co-op stings given that it's 2012, but what's here is more than enough to justify the purchase price if you like your tower defense played (mostly) solo.

Anomaly: Warzone Earth certainly brings a refreshing splash to the tower defense genre by taking what we’ve already experience in the genre and making gamers play the role of attacker rather than defender. With the varied unit types at your disposal and the commander abilities you can use, it should provide a lot of fun for those hoping to get something new out of this well-established genre.

A:WE is a superlative downloadable title. A cheap price tag belies a deep, difficult game that offers some frustration, but much more fun. Even if you've had more than your fill of tower defenses lately, give this one a shot. You might be surprised just how much a shift in perspective can change the feel of a whole genre.
