Torchlight II

Arguably the best Diablo since Diablo II (Diablo III at launch is sh*t). Torchlight 2 solved a lot of problems it had with its predecessor, adding a multiplayer is such a huge selling point for me. Having the option to play solo offline, local multiplayer through LAN or through online matchmaking is what made me choose TL2 over Diablo III.

Mod support for this game is overwhelming, from simple UI changes to gameplay improvements like adding controller support and staggering changes like adding dozens of whole new contents to the game such as new characters, pets and even whole towns with their own unique NPCs, dungeons, monsters and so much more!

There's literally countless hours to invest into this game, and you won't regret buying it, it only costs half the price of many other comparable games.

An easy introduction to the action-rpg hack 'n slash genre. It's dungeon crawling at its finest. A single-player only Diablo 2 clone with some refining for efficiency of gameplay. Though still a lot of fun, the lack of co-op multiplayer detracts from the one thing that made Diablo 2 such a fantastic game. Still, this is a solid game with enough plot to keep you exploring and enough drops to keep the loot hoarders happy.

Tencent's westernize version of their original mobile MOBA offering "Wangzhe Rongyao" is nothing short of impressive. Heroes are balanced, action is fast paced and matches are averaged at 20 minutes. This isn't like other mobile MOBAs out there, no single hero can carry the game on their own and the game rewards players for being cooperative. Team-fight outcomes are dependent on how well players execute their respective roles during the match.

With 85 heroes to choose from, you will definitely find the perfect match for your playstyle. Although their recent move to include a subscription-like mechanic in the game called the "Codex" in which certain heroes and skins are only obtainable by unlocking the codex to a certain level is a bit disappointing. But despite this minor drawback unlocking heroes and skins are not that difficult and they still offer free heroes and skins on a regular basis, making them a bit more generous compared to other developers.

The only misstep that is hampering the game's growth in the west is Tencent's decision to have different publishers for the game in different regions which divides player population resulting to less popularity compared to other games in the genre specifically Mobile Legends: Bang Bang. As a result of this decline in popularity, they are slowly ceasing operations in some countries and are focusing their efforts to the upcoming mobile version of League of Legends in partnership with Riot Games.

Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning

An underrated gem that's a better written Fable and is well worth your time. Released some time after Skyrim, the game was overshadowed by Bethesda's offering and went under the radar for some gamers. Despite this, Amalur outshines other Action RPG's with its huge and vibrant world, nice graphics, good story, clever quests, funny dialogues and interesting characters.

It's a shame that there wasn't a sequel because of some controversy but the future looks bright for Amalur whose IP was recently bought by THQ Nordic. Definitely on my list of top RPG's of all time, I'm hoping to see more of this IP in the future.

Not the first in the genre but definitely the best when it comes to gameplay and execution. Chess Rush tops its competitors with its fluid and unchaotic animations, fast-paced game modes and balance.

Tencent really knows how to please their audience and it shows. Unlike other auto-chess games, their turbo mode only lasts a mere 15 minutes of battling, compared to Underlord's dreadful 50 minute per game.

One of the best MMORPG I’ve played on mobile to date, this game doesn't feel like a mobile game, it's more of a console-quality type of game. Basically this game is monster hunter on mobile done right. It offers so much content, has great story, and has some of the best voice acting.

But it isn't perfect, one of the flaw I can find is with the RNG on the mall items, it's so low it’s painful, but they aren’t essential and don’t impact gameplay, they're mostly cosmetics and weapon skins, you can go fully free-to-play and still get the full experience just with a tiny bit more grinding but there is still plenty of fun to be had in that. Add to it a great community of players, teams to be made, NPC companions for a 4 player team at all times (or go solo if you prefer a challenge).

All in all a spectacular game with great combat (supports gamepads for a console-like experience although controllers with iOS support is a bit hard to come by) and a wide range of weaponry and skills.

Dauntless

I've been a fan of monster-hunting games since the PSP era and Dauntless is a good addition to the genre. Despite having similarities to other games in the genre like Monster Hunter, Dauntless still has something to bring to the table. The action is fast paced and the islands where you hunt aren't that huge so you don't have to spend a lot of time tracking the behemoths. The graphics are easy on the eyes, its "cartoony" look is reminiscent of games like Fortnite. The monster design are also awe-inspiring and you can tell the designers really took their time. Another good thing about this game is that it's FREE, and it's in no way pay-to-win. Most of the micro-transactions are just in the form of cosmetics like equipment dyes and skins. Despite all these good points, the game also has it flaws. The monsters aren't really balanced, Terra-type behemoths are easier to kill compared to Shock-type and the average kill-time for each boss is too long and repetitive at times. Also, It suffers from a lot of bugs like disappearing quests and parties after a hunt and random server disconnections which gets annoying after a while. There's certainly a room for improvement and I am excited for what the developers have in store for this game's future.
