In Vexlands, players are transported to a world of cursed lands. As the lone survivors, they have to rebuild civilization. They also need to ensure these communities thrive despite lingering threats. In this peculiar, all but vacant landscape, discover remnants of the past that tell tales of the disappearance of humanity, Apogee described.

Aside from the basics of a town simulation game, it also incorporates adventure elements. These included the ability to explore, hunt, forage, and battle enemies. Apogee confirmed that players could also go on dungeon crawls in Vexlands.

[Players must] level up adventuring skills to make quick work of enemies during skirmishes and dastardly dungeon crawls, the publisher said. The game also allows them to customize and choose their characters. They can be a resourceful gatherer, a wealthy crafter, or a battle-hardened warrior.
