On November 17, 2023, Atari and PLAION will start selling a new version of the iconic Atari 2600 video game console from the 1970s and 80s.
This new console is called the Atari 2600+. It looks and works just like the original Atari 2600 console. It even includes a CX40+ Joystick controller that is the same size and layout as the original from the 1970s.
The Atari 2600+ lets you play classic Atari 2600 and 7800 games on modern TVs through an HDMI output. It also adds new features like USB power and support for multiple screen resolutions.
Preserving classic games is a priority for Atari, and the release of the Atari 2600+ will make the hundreds of Atari 2600 and 7800 games that have been released over the last 50 years universally accessible,
said Atari Chairman and CEO, Wade Rosen.
The package comes with a single cartridge that has 10 iconic Atari games: Adventure, Combat, Dodge 'Em, Haunted House, Maze Craze, Missile Command, Realsports Volleyball, Surround, Video Pinball, and Yars' Revenge.
The Atari 2600+ costs $129.99 in the US. It will be sold online at atari.com and in stores worldwide starting November 17. Other accessories like paddle controllers and extra game cartridges will also be sold separately.
