FPS Horror 'Blair Witch' Shows More Gameplay And Mystery In New Gameplay Trailer

The creators of Layers of Fear continues to build their ‘first person horror’ reputation in this video game adaptation of the cult favorite found-footage horror movie The Blair Witch Project. It’s set 3 years before the movie.

Unveiled during this year’s E3, Bloober Team expands the Blair Witch lore. Players assume the role of Ellis, part of the volunteer search party tasked to find a missing kid in the mysterious woods of Burksville. By utilizing his walkie talkie, players can communicate with the outside world, but considering this is a horror game that messes the protagonists’ mind, everything is not what it seems.

Throughout the game, Ellis will be accompanied by his loyal dog. Together, they will search for clues and uncover the maddening nature of this evil place. Ellis’ dog will aid players by sniffing points of interest, digging stuff, and even getting inside small holes to get suspicious objects. It’s pretty cute, really.

Compared to Layers of Fear, this is also the first game to feature combat. In the latest gameplay footage, players will encounter strange shadowy creatures during the night. To counter this paranormal presence, players can simply use their flashlight to blind them, like Remedy’s Alan Wake.

Aside from the flashlight and your adorable dog, another important item in the game is the Camcorder. It’s designed to help players solve puzzles and record footage. By recording footage, they can slow down or rewind the clip to look for interesting (and scary) leads.

The Blair Witch comes out this August 30th on the Xbox One and PC. No word for PlayStation 4 yet.
