Wreckfest can have sustained periods of standard race after standard race, but it delivers its best parts when trying to keep that fresh. Simplicity in changing the difficulty of AI as well as assists allows you to tinker difficulty in career to keep some engagement in standard races. Online is very ropey on a bad server, but at its best, it’s too much fun to ignore over single player, especially if you need to quickly farm some credits.
It’d be hard to argue that Bugbear succeeded in what they set out to achieve. The question, really, is whether that’s enough to sustain Wreckfest as a long-term prospect. There’s some longevity in the multiplayer and its unnervingly friendly patrons, but unfortunately compared with the big dogs of the genre and their eSports leagues, Wreckfest may not have the infrastructure to keep a community in it for the long haul
In the end, Wreckfest is a game that you will tend to make your own fun in. The career mode can get a little old after a while, but the multiplayer makes it even more fun throwing other players into the already impressively crazy mix. Bugbear knows what their players want out of a game from them, and they offer it up in a really fun, chaotic package that any arcade racer can enjoy.
