Summary

The Tomb of Sargeras has been reopened, and the demons of the Burning Legion pour into our world. Their full, terrifying might is fixed on summoning the Dark Titan to Azeroth—and they’ve already located the key to his return. With the Alliance and Horde devastated, only you can take up Warcraft’s most legendary artifacts, scour the ancient Broken Isles for relics of the Titans, and challenge the Legion before Azeroth’s last hope dies. Steel yourself, champion. Extinction is imminent.

As it is, I’m having a blast and have already sunk an unreasonable amount of hours into Legion. Obviously, Blizzard could shoot itself in the foot any day now and make all these nice things I’ve just written completely pointless, but with plenty of patches around the corner full of even more content, I seriously doubt it. This seems like the perfect gateway expansion to snag those players who might be on the border about buying WoW.

That state is excellent. In World of Warcraft's 12 years of life, I've never seen an add-on this reactive and this specific in its targeting of individual issues that have upset long-time fans. New systems like world quests and mythic-plus dungeons are overflowing with potential to keep the game fresh and engaging for much longer. And the classic questing and raiding content is as good as it's ever been.

As it stands, Legion is a casual player’s dream with nearly more to do than can be accomplished in just a few months. Whether or not players will have the stamina to survive the vast amounts of grind that presents itself after level 110 is also an unknown. Blizzard is off to a good start on delivering its promises of more frequent and meaningful content updates.
