You see, the Guard are merely weak-willed conscripts; the poor lowly scum of the Earth (and a million other worlds), whose nature is to wall in, defend, build up and break out. DOW's established races instead prefer to dive into combat from the get-go, and so multiplayer games are now way more interesting and can last - gasp - as long as half an hour.

Relic's got a formula here that makes a lot of sense in this mad universe and promotes the kind of crazy and chaotic play that you would expect from a multi-faction battle. The Imperial Guard only add to the frantic gameplay in a positive way by allowing a slightly different style of play for the more defensively minded.

Even those who passed up Dawn of War the first time around might want to sit up and take note, since the expansion's new faction is much more user-friendly to beginners, even if it isn't as distinctive as the other factions. All things considered, Winter Assault is a great expansion pack for a great strategy game.
