That said, The Station is saved by its short runtime and an ending that stuck with me. I polished it off in just over an hour—meaning the drab bits didn't really have time to grate—and the last five minutes were the best part. It's only as long as it needs to be and it goes out with a bang, which are the bones of any good story.

Disappointed would be the wrong — and likely more forgiving — term to describe one’s feelings coming out of The Station. Disheartened is a more fitting definition; worse than its length or the severe lack of effort put into its environments that expand beyond the puzzle-solving (easily the game’s best and only salvation of a plus-point) is the otherwise safe and stale retreading of a formula that has been repeated many times in sci-fi themed games and executed much better in ways more thematically interesting.

I mentioned the term “walking simulators” before and although the term may sound somewhat pejorative, I was surprised to find out how much I enjoyed this game – even with the small faults within the story, characters and length the overall title. It was a charming experience. As of the writing of this article, I’ll be keeping a close eye on the developers, eagerly awaiting their next project and I do hope it becomes a success.
