In Chains of Satinav, players take on the role of Geron. The kingdom of Andergast, whose inhabitants are well known for their superstition, are in a war with Nostria. The first steps of an enduring peace are taken, but a mysterious plague of crows disturbs all hope. The birds are getting more and more aggressive and even attack people.

To get rid of this plague, the king seeks a skilled bird catcher -- an opportunity for young Geron to prove himself. Following an audience with the king, the prestigious task is assigned to him. However, not only does this chore prove to be unexpectedly difficult, but it also turns out to be the first step into the greatest adventure of his life, which will lead him to the uncharted lands of Aventuria and beyond...

Chains of Satinav leaves players just as enthralled by, and railing against the machinations of cruel fate as its characters. It’s a flawed gem; full of great ideas, but aching for that last bit of polish needed to complete its status as an undeniable treasure. This is especially apparent in some of its resource management, as despite being played on a computer that vastly exceeds its requirements, it still chugged at times. Regardless of its technical shortcomings, CoS provides a superbly engaging story driven experience, that feels uniquely its own.

Guiding him on his journey and unraveling the mystery of the Seer’s curse and seeming reappearance, one feels like he has grown from a young boy to a world-weary wandering hero by the end. Few, if any, of its contemporaries in the genre can match that depth of character development. For any fan of challenging puzzles and wonderful storytelling, Chains of Satinav is a game that must be played — nay, an experience that must be had.
