Summary

The castle-sim and siege-warfare RTS sequel Stronghold 2 at last brings the series to life in full 3D. The King, having fled after the defeat of his armies, now attempts to rule his country from a secret location. It is not known if he is even in the country anymore. Now, powerful barons jostle for what is fast becoming a disintegrating kingdom. It is up to you to stem the tides of their ambition and unite the land under the King once again. Expand your lands while you build and fortify your citadel. Entertain with jousts, lavish feasts and tournaments or rule with an iron fist and dispense medieval justice to your overworked and slovely peasants.

As much as Stronghold 2 is a very modern game, it also has an indefinable quality that will remind gamers of the classic Bullfrog games; full of humour, depth, subtle detail and replayability, with enough human misery thrown in to remind you why you started playing games in the first place.

Overall the game still needs a bit of work but is still a lot of fun. Future patches are in the works so hopefully all the bugs will be worked out. This medieval RTS is truly fun to play and was worth the wait. I really enjoyed this title and would highly recommend it to any RTS buff. The game still could use some polishing, but Firefly Studios claims they will fully support the game.

The game has a low frame rate during any action, even on high-end machines. And cutscenes are in-engine, so this issue rears its ugly head even during story sequences. Additionally, the audio to these cutscenes, and to the rest of the game, for that matter, is poor. Furthermore, the voice acting just isn't very good.
